Youth Advisory Council (YAC)
The Illinois SADD Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was created to assist the Illinois SADD State Coordinator in maintaining an open line of communication between the SADD chapters in Illinois and the Illinois SADD office.
Illinois SADD is currently accepting applications for Regions 1 through 5. If you would like to serve on the YAC, please read the following information and complete the entire application (click here to download application) and send it to:

There are 12 student representatives on the YAC. The YAC membership is comprised of 2 student representative from each of the five DHS regions and 2 members at large. One of the at-large members will be the Illinois Student of the Year. The Illinois SADD Student of the Year serves a one-year term and the additional representatives serve a one-year. A student may apply for a second one-year term.
Students applying for and serving on the YAC must be enrolled in high school and must be a freshman, sophomore or junior at the time of applicatoin. A representative may not serve on the YAC for more than two years. The regional representatives are selected through an application and interview process. The current YAC members and State Coordinator serve as the selection committee for the regional representatives.
After a student serves on the YAC for one year, the State Coordinator evaluates the student’s performance. Although a student may apply for a second term, there is no guarantee that the student will be awarded the position.
Each YAC representative is responsible for the following:
- Be committed to the philosophy and mission of SADD.
- Must be an active member of a registered SADD Chapter.
- Be willing to serve for a term of office that runs for one year (and may apply for a second one-year term).
- Attend quarterly YAC meetings at a central location in the state.
- Attend monthly conference calls and/or chat business meetings as needed.
- Keep informed of the SADD activities in their respective region.
- Write newsletter articles and regional updates for the Illinois SADD newsletter and website.
- Speak at schools in respective region.
- Assist schools in respective region in establishing SADD chapters.
- Promote SADD within respective region including statewide programs and activities.
- Write and distribute a letter of introduction to the schools in respective region.
- Allow any photo taken of the student at meetings, presentations and conferences to be used in the Illinois SADD newsletter, on SADD campaign materials such as posters and slicks, and on the ILSADD website. Allow student’s email address to be posted on the ILSADD website and in the Illiois SADD newsletters.
- Assist the State Coordinator in preparing and implementing regional meetings and the SADD Track of workshops at the SADD/IDEA conference.
- Make every effort to attend the SADD National Conference.(not mandatory until funding is secured).
- Attend the Illinois SADD State conference
