Welcome to Illinois SADD

More than saying "No"

Originally, the mission of the SADD chapter was to help young people say "No" to drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded. Students have told us that positive peer pressure, role models and other strategies can help them say "No" to more than drinking and driving.

And that is why SADD has become a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide.

A message from your State Coordinator

Suicide Prevention Week is the second week of September. My daughters and I, and many members of our small community lost a very special person this past January. In some small way I hope this honors Ian and all that he meant to so many of us.

During Suicide Prevention week encourage chapter members to write on the inside of their wrists using a ultra fine sharpie or similar ink pen. They should simply write the words, "prevention" or some may want to write "in remembrance". The intent is to be ready to tell others that it is national suicide prevention week and there is hope and help available.

This is a simple yet effective way to raise awareness and talk about something that is difficult and painful for some to discuss. A special thanks goes out to Ian's sister, Jen, for allowing us to remember Ian in a way that might help others.

Distracted Driving Simulator

Contact IL SADD to bring the distracted driving simulator to your school or community. This interactive driving simulator is an excellent way to raise awareness around the issue of texting and driving.  Use the on-screen phone or your own cell phone, but be prepared for the consequences.  This simulator, made possible by IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety is the latest resource being provided to schools to address the issue of distracted driving.  The SADD State Coordinator is hitting the road to spread the message.....txt l8tr.....not behind the wheel!

View the SADD Simulator Brochure for more information!
